Service Description
For many students, word problems can be one of the most intimidating aspects of mathematics, but they don't have to be! In this class, students will gain confidence to tackle basic math story problems by learning helpful comprehension and problem-solving strategies. This course is targeted for students ages 7-11 that already have a comfortable grasp on basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), but need help decoding word problems. Jan. 23rd - Language of Word Problems Jan. 30th - Decoding Addition Problems Feb. 6th - Decoding Subtraction Problems Feb. 13th - Decoding Multiplication Problems Feb. 20th - Decoding Division Problems Feb. 27th - Mixed Review Mar. 6th - Multi-Step Word Problems Here are some sample word problems from the course: "Gabriella has 42 books on her bookshelf. After purchasing 13 more books at a Reading Festival, how many total books does Gabby now have?" "Sam rides his bike to the library every Saturday morning. The ride from his house takes 21 minutes. If Sam has already been biking for 7 minutes, how much longer does he have to ride before he arrives at the library?" "A box of chocolates has 6 rows. There are 8 pieces of chocolate in each row? How many pieces of chocolate are in the box?" "Lauryn is planning a dinner event for 76 people and needs to order tables. Each table can seat up to 6 people. What is the fewest number of tables Lauryn needs to order?" *This class has a minimum enrollment of 3 students. You will not be charged/will be refunded if the class is cancelled due to low enrollment- but we would love for you to tell your friends and help us fill the class.
