The Mrs. Math Story

My name is Amanda Stunes. I have been an educator for 16 years, and am the founder of Mrs. Math. I have always found joy in mathematics, choosing to take advanced math courses throughout my college years for personal enrichment, while working toward my teaching degree.

I started my teaching career in 2008 at a public elementary school after graduating from the University of Arizona with a BS in Education. However, I quickly discovered my passion for teaching mathematics and moved to middle grade instruction, where I taught 6th grade math through 8th grade Algebra I for high-school credit. While working at a Title1 middle school, I was awarded Teacher of the Year after my students saw some of the highest growth on Arizona's standardized test for mathematics.

In addition to a middle grades mathematics endorsement, I received my gifted education endorsement in 2015. Since that time, my experiences have led me to classrooms of all grade levels and abilities, K through 12. I have most recently worked with elementary gifted students in a small-group enrichment setting. During my time teaching gifted

education, I have had the opportunity to write curriculum for my district’s enrichment program, some of which has been selected to be presented at gifted conferences and teacher professional development programs.

During the pandemic, I fell in love with virtual instruction (and homeschooling my own two kids) and gained confidence in my ability to deliver high-quality, engaging lessons to students learning from their home environment. Inspired by a conversation with a homeschooling friend of mine, we recognized a need in the homeschooling community for a daily live mathematics option. Mrs. Math was born right then and there. I am excited to immerse my family into the world of homeschooling and look forward to learning from and building relationships within the homeschool community.
