The Mrs. Math Story

My name is Amanda Stunes. I’m a passionate educator with 17 years of experience and the founder of Mrs. Math. I’ve always found joy in mathematics - so much so that I took advanced math courses in college simply for personal enrichment while earning my degree in education.
I began my teaching career in 2008 at a public elementary school after graduating from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Education. I soon discovered that my true passion was teaching math and transitioned into middle school, where I taught everything from 6th grade math to Algebra I for high school credit. While working at a Title I middle school, I was honored to receive a Teacher of the Year award after my students achieved some of the highest math growth scores on Arizona’s state standardized tests.
In 2015, I earned endorsements in both mathematics and gifted education, which opened doors to working with students of all grade levels and abilities, from kindergarten through 12th grade. Most recently, I’ve had the privilege of teaching elementary gifted students in a small-group enrichment setting. During that time, I also wrote curriculum for my district’s gifted program, some of which has been featured at gifted education conferences and professional development events for educators.

When the pandemic hit, I discovered a love for virtual instruction and the joy of homeschooling my own children. I quickly realized how powerful and personal learning can be when it happens at home. After a conversation with a homeschooling friend, we saw a clear need for a live, daily math option designed specifically for homeschoolers. And with that, Mrs. Math was born!
I am thrilled to continue building connections within the homeschool community and to provide meaningful, engaging math experiences for other families learning from home.
